Join us aboard Journeyman as we sail from Friday Harbor to Astoria in preparation for the Oregon Offshore. This time of year the NW winds begin to return making this a downwind trip and a wonderful opportunity to learn how to handle an asymmetrical spinnaker offshore and drive a downwind surfing machine that is the Cal 40.

On this trip you will learn.

-Vessel traffic

-Night sailing

-Offshore route planning

-Coastal navigation (ASA 105 is a prerequisite for the 106 certification)

-Tides and currents and bar crossings

-How to use modern navigation equipment like: AIS, Chart plotters, PC based plotters, VHF, Ipad and smartphone based applications.

All GBA passages are hands on. All crew are expected to participate on all levels of the boat’s operation.

$1500 each with a crew of four.
