Yellow Island is a beautiful little preserve located 7 miles North of Friday Harbor and offers a window into a time before the development of its surrounding islands. On it, wildflowers cover its grassy slopes as trails wander a visitor from view to view that can’t help but make you want to slow down and take in the smells and sights. Bees bumble around your feet and the spring air is full of the boisterous song of the small bids lucky enough to call this island home. Not far up the path after landing the 13-foot gig I brought just for the chance to see this famed island (nonmotorized boats are not allowed to land) I passed the caretaker sitting on a bench. He looked up from the drawing he was not going to have to add elsewhere to and said hello. We chatted for. 30 minutes or more and spoke about everything from dinghies that row well to the new rules about whale watching. Matt is as kind as he is lucky in jobs being the caretaker. Eventually, I let him return to his drawing and began my exploration of the island. Here are some of the pictures.
